It has been another vigorous year of events and adventures for OneMama and although at times it seemed as these strides towards my vision were small, as the year ends I am reminded and amazed at all the support and love that helped OneMama continue to move forward in these times of adversity. It's Party Time!
Celebrate Life OneMama Style

Time to make some merry cheer at OneMama's annual fundraising party. Dec 3rd at the Painted Gentlemen Mansion in Alamo Square, 940 Grove, San Francisco from 7:30p-12:30a. It will be an evening of unique entertainment with 10 rooms of live music, DJs, food, libations, vendors and performers. Tickets are donations at the door or online at onemama.org of a minimum $10.

You Are Making A Difference

With many established clinics in our area closing their doors due to financial struggles, OneMama has seen an increase in demand for its services. Your support allows our clinic to increase patient numbers and continue to save lives. This year The Ross Foundation awarded a grant for a solar panel system that will bring electricity to the village, we were featured at the Tedx Peace Innovation Conference, Women Rock It, and events for the Golden Globes and Oscars. Let's continue the OneMama momentum! Here are some great ways for you to get involved:

What OneMama needs:

Solar Panel Delivery
20 solar panels and 18 batteries donated by The Ross Foundation need a way to Africa! $150 is needed for each for safe arrival.

Medical Supplies
20 bags of medical supplies donated by The Birthing Foundation also need a way to Africa. $150 for each will ensure their safe trip.

Solar Panel Installation
OneMama is $3,000 short for the installation costs of what will be an incredible change and addition to what is now a candlelit clinic.

Malaria Treatments
$2,000 will give those suffering relief for 6 months.

$500 will teach and give those in need a chance to become economically self sufficient.

Siobhan's Hello From Uganda - OneMama turned 3 yrs-old!

Hello My Dearest Family and Friends,

OneMama is 3 Now!

I am writing to you from the OneMama Clinic here in Uganda. This has been an amazing trip. I am still always taken aback by how things are powered on this project by one miracle after another.

I'm asking for one more MIRACLE before I leave on Sat Feb 5th...
We only need to raise $1900 more before I leave to finish buying all the supplies needed for this trip.
This is what everyone involved with OneMama wants for OneMama's Birthday...This One More Miracle!

It is incredible to think that just 3 years ago Jan 6th, OneMama was just my vision based on the ideal to make others feel loved and shown that they matter in this world. I am so thankful for all the love and support in these last 3 years. OneMama would not have been able to come this far without YOU! It warms my heart to know that my passion has translated into the hearts of others. Whether you have given money or donated your time, your consciousness has single-handedly helped to change a community and taken steps to change the world.

We have come far, but still have a long way to go in 2011.
This trip alone we have made a lot of progress with very little money...
but we are short on donations needed for me to complete my work while I am in Africa until Saturday, Feb 5th.
OneMama is in need of your continued donations to keep us functional and thriving.
Just $4-5 will buy a birthing kit to aid in the safe delivery for two mothers and babies as well as help with malaria testing and treatment.

Here are some accomplishments of OneMama's Pilot Program in Uganda has accomplished in these last 3 years:

We now have birthing kits and medical supplies needed for safe and pain free births on a continuous basis.
We have Malaria Tests and treatments, HIV testing, and immunizations for Mothers and Babies on site.
We have built a safe place for all our supplies and medicine so they will be safe from damage and theft.
We now have mosquito nets available for everyone that stays at the clinic; mothers, babies, and midwives.
We have new clean beds for the delivery and examination areas.
We now have a OneMama advisory committee to keep the surrounding 6 villages committed and engaged in this project and keep our organization a breast of community concerns.
They will also oversee the local donations of bricks and supplies from each village. Each village has committed to make and donate 20,000 bricks to contribute towards the new solar facility yearly until completed.
We have gained commitments from surrounding villages, which will aid them in taking ownership over the new clinic and programs.
OneMama is a registered CBO in Uganda with a great set of local Ugandan leaders who volunteer their time to the program and is almost completed the process of being an official NGO of Uganda.
We have met with Parliament, the ministry of health and proper leadership in the local community and have their blessing.
We now have scheduled regular malaria prevention education classes and mosquito net sales with our partners.
We have vocational education classes in place to make the OneMama Collection which helps pay for healthcare and clinic costs, and develops community sustainability.
We have family planning education and treatment scheduled regularly on site.
We now have great partnerships with PREFA - HIV prevention, SoftPower Health - Malaria Prevention and Family Planning and Volunteers to continue building our sustainable programs.
We now have established the two acres that will be donated to build the new OneMama Clinic when we raise the money in near future.

Accomplishments here in the United States:

OneMama is an official 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization.
We have been recognized by Tactics of Hope as a social entrepreneur organization.
We have launched our OneMama collection here in the USA, which 100% of proceeds go back into the OneMama Ugandan community who hand craft the products.
We now have T-Shirts made in USA, which are being used as fundraising tools to help generate money and support OneMama programs.
Founder, Siobhan Neilland has also created ShaBoom products to help fund the OneMama programs. This all-natural line is OneMama's long-term fundraising machine giving 25% of proceeds to OneMama.
OneMama has started to become a charity of choice for Celebrity events such as the Golden Globes, Grammys, and Oscars Pre & Post Events, helping to bring attention to these issues.

OneMama’s pilot program in Uganda consists of a building, solar medical clinic where midwives can provide safe post and prenatal care to their patients as well as teach about family planning OneMama will reach 250 communities around the globe in the years to come.

As stars come to our suite they will be helping bring attention to ONEMAMA and they will be signing ONEMAMA T-shirts that the organization will auction off. We are asking for your help as a person that we love and trust and know can help us create the momentum needed. We need 20 people to help me with this goal very quickly! OneMama Challenges
We have had significant funding challenges over the last few months. The clinic lost crucial funding previously promised to OneMama. As a result, we are about to lose our on-site nurse and crucial staff if we don't raise enough funds by December 28 when I leave for Uganda.

At the same time, the clinic has seen increased demand for its services as OneMama has become more established in the area and trusted by the community. To meet the increased demand, we need more medical supplies such as birthing kits, pain medication, malaria tests and treatment, etc. to take us thru the end of January.

It is time that I step up to be the leader I am called to be, I now have to ask for HELP and see what the universe brings back to support this cause.

OneMama is in an interesting place...
We've received amazing press and new opportunities that will help us build a solid foundation for the organization with the goal of building a 3 wing solar clinic not only in Uganda, but in 250 future sites around the world! ...but today we have very little donations to cover our medical supplies and the onsite nurse for the next 6 months till that happens.

My compromised health in 2010 has cost OneMama dearly in fundraising efforts this year . Now that I am fully recovered from the infection I received last year in Africa , I am doing everything I can to get all of these programs funded properly and quickly. The good news is that since I began the healing process, more organizations and Hollywood have been reaching out to OneMama to see what they can do to support our programs in the upcoming year.

Our future is bright in 2011... but OneMama needs HELP today.

Siobhan's True Story - OneMama Update

Hello My Dearest Family and Friends,

Wow!... Life is amazing!
If you follow the messages as you travel this river of life, the story can lead to miraclesthat can save your life & if you’re lucky, the lives of others.

So here begins the story of the adventure I had no idea I was going totake...
After OneMama’s fundraiser on July 11, I prepared to leave for Uganda to deliversupplies, update existing clinic concerns, and start new programs. On the 25th, I waspacked and set to go with all my shots and preparations in place.

The night before I was to leave, I received a call from my doctor that my lab tests cameback irregular. The concerns were that along with other health problems, I could havebreast cancer as well. It was urgently insisted upon that I come in the next day for furthertests, and highly suggested that I postpone my trip.

That following day my flight to Uganda was postponed and I began seeing amazingdoctors, specialists, healers and spiritual mentors with many miracles. This led meon a journey to take a serious look at the changes I needed to make to get my life andOneMama back on track.

I came to find that I did not have breast cancer but a dangerous Systemic FungusInfection I got while in Uganda last year. It took 6-9 months to incubate and was startingto take over my body and nervous system leading to my declining health in the past year.Had I not been given the breast cancer scare, I would have traveled to Uganda and mightnot have caught this infection in time before it took me down completely. Going to Africawould have been taxing on my body and health, and could have ended in a dire situation.

For 2 months now, I've been on many treatments; western medicine complimented bymany alternative modalities. Miracles have happened and I'm starting to feel like myselfagain. Although I am still on the mend, I continue to heal everyday and feel better than Ihave in a year.

Thank God! I feel so blessed...

A bigger blessing that comes from all this, is that I am even more encouraged tohelp people around the world with these types of aliments. I am truly lucky to live indeveloped country with accessible medical care. Even with this luxury, doctors stillwere not able to diagnosis my condition for a year! What about all the mothers, babiesand daddies who don't have the access to any healthcare in rural improvised countries?

This experience has given me more fight to go and find solutions, not just for me but forall people. The solutions may not be that complex, but not treating them can prove to belethal. I am encouraged more then ever to continue the journey, helping every soul onthis planet find health and economic freedom and sustainability. It is everyone’s right!

The new plan is to return to Uganda in December and January to deliver supplies andbring a round of US volunteers who can help jump start programs in the clinic.

My compromised health has cost OneMama dearly in fundraising efforts. The goodnews is that since I began the healing process, more organizations have been reachingout to OneMama to see what they can do to support our programs just in this last month.

This week I am officially back to work at all my jobs and responsibilities.I will be reaching out to many of you in the coming weeks to re-establish connections andthank you for your support, personally.

Our next event is LA Fashion Week, where we are the featured charity. Here’s tomanifesting that this opportunity leads to the much needed funding needed to keep thingsmoving forward with the clinic and expansion.

I know that I have not been quite myself with many of you for the last few monthsand for that I am sorry. But I want to thank all of you who have been so generous withyour time and support to me during all these last minute life changes. This has been aninteresting year for my health and personal well being, but I am finding my way throughall of it with amazing friends, swimming in the ocean and all your kind encouragement.

I want to express my gratefulness to all the gracious doctors, healers, and special peoplewho donated their time, health services, places for me to stay and travel that wereinstrumental in my healing process.

Thank you to those who have given. Your generous donations are currently providing many people with medical supplies and the critical nursing care they desperately need. We need your continued support to expand our reach and the care we provide our fellow travelers on this earth.

I am at peace and hopeful that things will keep getting better, on the mend, and I will beguided to more amazing life adventures with all of you.

I cant believe this is my life!

As most of you know, I was invited to the Golden Globes events this week to present the OneMama Collection and ShaBoom Products Makeup lines that I created to the Celebrities and Press in a special VIP Room...

I am currently on the road 100 miles out of sparkle town as I write this...with my trusted OneMama ally Kristen... And I feel all the OneMama's with me on this journey...

Still not sure what I am going to wear..I am trying to choose one of the Long OneMama Dresses...( if you want to help me choose you can go to the www.OneMama.org site and, unfortunately, I am the model in these, but you can try to help me see what looks best on me..UGH!) You know I am overwhelmed when this Diva girl still has not picked her outfit...

Oh the life of running a Non–Profit and working 3 jobs to support it....

A Health Note:
My Health – I am now all cleared of all the critters that I got from my last trip from Africa, and I have been officially off bed rest for the last month. I am now ready to go and face 2010 with vigor and let God use me and my temple how she sees fit to be a service in the world.

Siobhan's Update - Thanks for all the support!

Well...
I want to Thank You all for all the emails and calls during my month of October forced bed rest.

I have to admit I really thought I would be off bed rest by now ( the first week of November) and would be able to get back to my normal pace a little sooner. I am doing better according to my health practitioners, but I am still not fully able to go back to my normal super-hero super-charger energy levels.

Here is the deal...
I have a bad case of parasites acquired while in Africa and some complications that come along with that, that have put my body in a fragile state. I am on a healing plan and medicine routine that Is definitely killing the hungry beasts that have been attacking my body. However, the down side is this process takes a couple months and makes you feel worse for awhile. So if you don’t see or hear from me much this next month... that is why...

The Good News...
I asked the universe for a miracle since I can not promote right now due to my health for OneMama and ShaBoom and.. I GOT IT...Someone put our name in the hat and we are going to be at the Golden Globes Jan 14th to give all the press and celebrities gifts from ShaBoom and OneMama. Please send your good thoughts and wishes that we get the press OneMama needs from this to keep our doors open and ShaBoom so that it can be the long term funding machine for OneMama. This is a huge opportunity for us and we Thank All of you for spreading the word to bring this gift to us.

Birthday Plans...

I am taking a Break and Need your Help!

OH... so I have an update that is hard for me to admit... I need your HELP!

I have been put on bed rest for the month of October by my doctor due to health concerns that linger from my last trip to Uganda last month.

I am going to be fine but I need some rest to recuperate and heal. Working OneMama, ShaBoom, and SER Staffing Consulting jobs to support OneMama does not give me the time to do that so I am putting everything except my SER staffing consulting on HOLD for this month.

Here is where I need your Help...

If you feel inspired by the work of OneMama and would like to take on some of the work load to keep things running while I am out on bed rest then please email info@onemama.org. Kristen will help set you up with OneMama volunteering to help us with our goal to keep the clinic open for when I return at Christmas.

OneMama Uganda - August 09 Report

Hello my Dearest Friends and Family,

Wow! This OneMama is in AWE! It seems every trip gets more intense as I continue to do this work. It was a very long and wild journey.

Miracles Happen! We had another successful trip and accomplished the impossible in a very short time with MANY obstacles. Apparently, miracles are what I depend on and what keeps the OneMama project alive. The many obstacles I endured to arrive at success this trip, once again made me question if I could keep doing this. Yes, I admit, I wanted to quit this time, but all is good and I am back on track again. This is my life’s work. The lesson I learned was to not get attached to any of the good or the bad, it just keeps changing no matter what your plans.

Here is what we completed this trip to get us to Jan 2010:

6 months of birthing kits and birthing supplies for the birthing clinic
6 months of Malaria tests and treatments for adults and children for the medical clinic
6 months of additional medical supplies for the medical clinic
6 months commitment and pay for an on-site medical nurse
Built a 10x10 treatment room in the medical clinic so we could move out of Jamira’s sitting room, which was being used as the treatment room. We still are raising money to build real buildings, but this is one step closer.
We completed an unfinished simple room for the nurse to stay while he is on site all week.
Implemented more structure to the vocational crafts program, which is designed to help the community and clinics become self-sustaining.
Created a new line of clothing designs for the OneMama collection to sell that will generate the income for another 6 months (75% of medical supplies come from the purchase of this collection). New African print dresses, shirts, bags, and dolls. They are beautiful and all one of a kind with OneMama tags. New groovy hats that are hand woven from the village community, and more baskets and jewelry. All especially made through the OneMama vocational program.
We had an official land ceremony in front of all community leaders where the land was donated to the OneMama Organization to build the future buildings.
We received a generous offer from a local community leader to provide us with another piece of land to build bandas to host volunteers' on the Nile River. This is so exciting, now we will be able to open up our volunteer opportunities to more people by next year.
We took care of legal land matters with our local lawyer, CBO and NGO papers, and general overall legal matters that concern this kind of project.
We revised blue prints for the vision of the solar clinic complex. It will house a birthing clinic, a medical clinic and a community vocational center for large community gatherings and teaching. It will be nice to move out of mud huts and Jamira’s house as the clinic. We are still trying to raise $200,000 to complete this.
Had extensive meetings with local OneMama Directors, who donate their time to keep the project running. We implemented some ways for them to do local fundraising and create revenue for the clinic in addition to OneMama collection sales.
It is important to keep in mind that all OneMama Ugandan directors VOLUNTEER and work for other NGO’s for very little money ($1500-$4000 a year). We are not able to pay them salaries, only try to reimburse them their phone and transportation costs. My hope is by next year to get the donations needed to pay them. This project would not succeed with out them and they truly are givers when they themselves could use help.
They really show us what it means to volunteer your time and energy when they themselves could use a helping hand. My hope is by next year I can get someone to donate towards salaries for them. This project would not succeed with out them.
A miracle happened! When I arrived we realized we were short $3,000 US dollars to buy birthing kits, medical supplies and support clinic costs. All of our supporters got together in a crazy facebook and network email explosion, which helped us raise all the money we needed before I left. We were able to take care of all that we needed to keep the clinic running another 6 months.

Obstacles:
Seriously, don’t you want to know the juicy details? This trip was brutal. I usually have a lot more fun on these journeys but this trip became about getting through it alive and home in one piece, without quitting!

I got something like a swine flu in Dubai on my way to Uganda and was so sick I was unable to function for my first 5 days. Nothing like having a fever with chills in a thatched roof banda and none of your remedies to get you better. I could not leave for the village until I got better so as not to bring the sickness to the clinic.
One of the scariest things on the trip was the strange man who tried to break into my thatched banda at 2am while I was sleeping. I thought I was going to be attacked, but luckily something scared him away just in time. I have to say I never slept very well the rest of the trip.
I had an encounter with an obsessed taxi driver who brought things to help “OneMama” to my banda at midnight and then would not leave. I luckily found a way to scare him off.
One of my many meltdowns this trip occurred when I realized we were short donations of about $3,000 US. The clinic is now supporting more people because other NGO’s in the area are closing down due to the credit crisis. We have more demand and the lack of funds could not get us enough basic supplies to get us through to January 2010. Graciously, after a call for help, a miracle happened and our supporters began magically donating. Within a week we had all the money we needed.
Bug bites from HELL – I had an allergic reaction to these bugs that turned into blood blister all over my limbs. I then experienced an allergic reaction to the spray they use to kill the bug that made me very ill and for another 3 to 4 days. I was not walking around very much those days.
Cultural Differences are begging to take root. The village and community that this clinic supports doesn’t understand why I have not built the clinic yet and are afraid I have lied to them like so many before me. This is heartbreaking. I have come short in raising the $150,000-$200,000 I need to build the real clinic. In Uganda you build as you go, you don’t wait until you have all the money like we do here. So we are taking the bricks that so many have donated and are beginning to build a foundation of one of the structures so they feel that the dream of the OneMama clinic is still in action.
Most organizations would wait until they get Grants, foundation money, or a large donation before they start. I did not. I used the last little bit of my savings and some crazy entrepreneurial ideas to generate the little money we have now. I have tried to explain this to the community but it is not an easy concept to translate. I try to explain that I have faith money will come if we learn how to take care of our basic needs and become self-supporting. But these are people who have done without their whole lives and that kind of big dream just feels like a “lie”. So heart breaking. Lets all hold the dream together so that it does not become a lie.
The biggest meltdown that I had this trip was when one of the key people who helps us in Uganda thought I was taking money. They did not understand that I have sacrificed all my own money and work two other jobs to pay for what we lack in donations and the US operations of OneMama. They thought I was taking a salary and donations and that was why we did not have money for the remaining supplies. This brought tears to my eyes and humbled me! So in case any of you reading this wonder, all monies donated to OneMama go to OneMama programs based in Uganda. There is only one paid salary and that is the onsite clinic nurse. All the US operation, legal, and consultant fees have up until this point been paid by me or donated by those individuals. I have never taken money from OneMama, only given to it. This was an important learning experience that no matter what, I will not always be judged by what I actually do, but what people perceive I do and sometimes what people before me have done. So many before I, have come here and tried to take advantage of them and their way of life. It is hard to know that I can not change that overnight but maybe someday it will be different, and with that I offer myself to the universe and leave the results up to the divine. This is my lifes work...this is what I am here to do.
I found myself recruiting from my Blackberry in a hut in the village to save my consulting contract. My consulting work is what I live on and supports this work with OneMama. My Client became unexpectedly busy during a usually slow time of year and while I was on my planned leave, I had to support them at this critical juncture. I worked at midnight every night from a blackberry in a place that had no electricity, running water or internet. Have you seen what a resume looks like on a blackberry? Not an easy task, but I did it because it had to be done!
Then there was the last spooky piece of information. Some of my very close friends in San Francisco dreamed I would have some of these things happen on this trip, before I left and while I was gone. It really shows how very connected we all are.
Riots broke out only a few weeks after I left in the district our clinic resides in and in the major city of Kampala...things are not as easy right now as they have been.

Sweet Moments:
Mama Jamira is really the reason I do all of this. She inspires me to be a better woman and be joyful while I am doing it.

I met some new people that started projects in Uganda, who I really bonded with and helped me not feel so alone
I found a new level of faith and connection to draw upon and protect me when things felt scary.

My faith renewed even after all that happened this trip...
I renewed my faith that we really are all connected as ONE. When I could not continue, wanted to quit and we didn’t have the money we needed, all of you held me and OneMama up raising the money and mostly my HOPE. This project is no longer mine and actually never was. It is all of ours. Like Glide says, we are the “beloved community” no matter where you are in the world...

Every trip I come to terms with living full time in two worlds.
I am back to working as a consultant, and have officially launched the ShaBoomProducts.com cosmetics line to support OneMama. The new OneMama collection is ready to be purchased on OneMama.org after a weekend of modeling for pictures to post. Yes, I am already full speed ahead and have not even been back 2 weeks. I still have not conquered the 7000 emails still waiting for me...so if you are one of them...I am sorry, I promise I will get there.
