OneMama 2014 Detailed Updates October 23rd, 2014, by Siobhan Neilland We Have new Partnerships for the Clinic Services Partners that will assist our OneMama Community health services: Monthly dental programs New HIV programs – such as circumcision Makerere University Walter Reed Project - circumcised 60% less chance of HIV then non-circumcised More family planning services - Marie Stopes & SoftPower Malnutrition partner - Saving his Children – new out reach programs Surgical clinic partners - in the future being able to perform more complicated surgeries – now have proper referrals and our new clinic room!   Partners who will assist our OneMama Community with economic services: Agriculture corn program – improving growth and improving market strategies Agriculture coffee program – improving growth and going to market strategies Crafts program we are looking to improve the program for both local market and Global – implemented new processes and long term goal Partners that focus on Skills development programs – sponsored vocational Education - CBO (Uganda Youth) that offers scholarships to OneMama and Community members that offer skill development   Agriculture Partner Classes to assist Community and keep OneMama self-sufficient: Training for OneMama Community in crops that are easy to grow and higher quality and higher revenue and distribution Training for OneMama Community to pick a unique crop that is easy to grow but unique to us to export Training for OneMama Community in creating teams of woman on how to sell as a community - Partners teach, train, and mentor and coach them thru this process - going to partner to sell locally Training on crops that as a community we are going to sell internationally Economic Sustainability - Crafts & Clothing Program We have increased our base of community members participating in the crafts & clothing educational programs which funds the clinics medical supplies and programs. We implemented new communication processes to keep all key personal more informed and interconnected locally and internationally. There is a new system in place creating checks and balances to move us to being a more efficient organization. This includes monthly international conference calls with all team members. We increased nurse salaries and budgets for where there had not been an increase to keep our wonderful nurses happy and not moving to other organizations. We reevaluated all medical procedures and supplies to make sure we are up-to-date in the latest and best available to us within our budgets. We reviewed and updated all budget matters and took into consideration what comes in, how to increase donations, and also how to more efficiently utilize and budget clinic monies. Directors have now started a new initiative to pursue alternative donor and NGO programs locally not just internationally Community Meetings We met with the Local Community and the Community Advisory Board for OneMama We discussed all the new construction and long-term plans:                 Membership to OneMama clinic and services was addressed and improved Community is excited that on Health Services and Partner Days we can have up to 350-400 participants attending the OneMama Clinic However you choose to support to OneMama, remember to have fun doing it! Letter from OneMama Founder – Siobhan Neilland - on OneMama Updates Nov. 1, 2012 Hello Sweet OneMama Family, Wow!... I made it through another adventurous trip to the OneMama Birthing and Health clinic in Uganda and now on my way back home to San Francisco. It seems every trip gets more intense and complicated as I continue to do this work. It was another very long, challenging and interesting journey but we made major headway. I am honored and in AWE!... with all of YOU!... YOU..The OneMama family around that world has come together with donations and volunteering all these years , to make this clinic and the OneMama programs grow in ways that seemed impossible a short while ago! We as a OneMama family have brought Light to a place where there was only darkness... Literally!.. The solar power has been installed and now for first time in History we have power and light in an area that has never had it and can have a properly lit clinic for babies to be born in. Miracles Happen!... This was our most successful trip we have ever had! We accomplished the impossible in a very short time with MANY challenges, obstacles and as always interesting adventures. Apparently, miracles are what we depend on and what keeps the OneMama project alive. The challenges I endured to arrive at success this trip, once again made me question if I could keep doing this. Apparently , that is also a part of the equation of things falling into place on these trips. Yes, I admit, I wanted to quit this time again, but all is good and I am back on the OneMama train again. This is my life's work. The lesson I learned was to not get attached to any of the good or the bad, it just keeps changing no matter what your plans..and then the answers come in the process. New Miracles that YOU helped create...    • Solar Panels and Power Installed – We now have a fully self contained solar power system for lights,      refrigerator for medicine, and computers.    • New Delivery Bed for birthing mothers.    • New Refrigerator to store new kinds of medicines.    • Built all new clinic, birthing rooms, office and upgraded all rooms on facility to get a higher      registration as a health center and get Ugandan Government support.    • Tore down old and damaged clinic rooms and buildings unfit for use.    • Top Local Community Elders and OneMama advisory community board are taking action on their own now to do      fundraising for the clinic which in ways as never before.    • Computers, new forms and reporting system in place to improve statistics and health reporting.    • New Medicines and upgraded the supply list to include leading medicines.    • We hired two new Registered nursing practitioners so that we can now have 7 days of health services      instead of 5 days.    • We now have upgraded the Crafts programs and educational Economic sustainability program for      both International and Local market level.    • Hired new Crafts Teacher and put in more robust program in place every week.    • Distributed birthing kits to rural Traditional midwives who have no supplies In surrounding area's with      our Birthing Kit Outreach program and partner BKFA.    • New 2012 Clothing Designs for OneMama collection are now ready for distribution and to be submitted for stores.    • Worked with SunSaluter to bring new solar technology and water purification to the clinic site Siobhan's Personal Highlights on Trip...    • My first bout with Malaria – I am on the mend now    • Severe allergic reaction to the Malrone – (Anti Malaria meds) – caused my vulnerability to Malaria    • African Rats... jumping in my bed while sleeping... twice    • Car Breakdowns and Flat tires on side of highways in extremely dangerous area's    • Crying with Mama Jamira Tears of Joy!.. with the first night of Light and power on the clinic grounds Thanks to all of you who have been supporting us this year and during this trip. You Are Making A Difference With many established clinics in our area closing their doors due to financial struggles, OneMama has seen an increase in demand for its services. Your support allows our clinic to increase patient numbers and continue to save lives. This year The Ross Foundation awarded a grant for a solar panel system that will bring electricity to the village, we were featured at the Tedx Peace Innovation Conference, Women Rock It, and events for the Golden Globes and Oscars. Let's continue the OneMama momentum!
